War of the Chosen Children practice sketches

From left to right, you have Sei, Faye, and Noir.

This are practice drawings for the upcoming trade I am doing with my friend. The trade is long overdue, but I have been wanting to finish it for awhile (especially since he finished his end of the trade). I’m quite happy with the result, though I know what changes I am going to make on it.

The parasites (arm designs) were fun to draw, though I think Faye’s was the most difficult. Surprisingly enough, I think Noir was my favorite to draw. I was worried about how he would turn out since I am not that good at drawing guys. Let’s just hope he looks just as good when I draw him again!

I should have set drawings by this weekend. I’m very excited to put everything together.

Small updates

Hello everyone, I’ve been away for a bit, but slowly getting things together.

I’ve added a section for the “Scarlet Doll Mansion” comic. It looks like that will be an official comic that I’ll be doing and will try to release stuff every week. It won’t have any impact on my current projects and I hope that it’s somewhat entertaining.

As for the Dance X Mixer video, I should have it up by tomorrow. I’m not too keen on how the encoding will turn out, but we’ll see what happens I suppose. I’m working on a lot of drawings and other projects at the moment. I’m sorry for not being consistent with my updates.

I will also start sketching once a day and then post my two favorite sketches to post online.

Anyway, I hope that I can give you a lot of stuff this week. Work is slowing down for me, so I should be doing much more.

Scarlet Doll Mansion: A ‘New’ Figurine (part 1)

Miku and Remilia talk of Locke’s “newest” figurine.

So what happens when Flan-chan gets her hands on figurines?

I guess it’s official, I have made this into a new comic series. I will release new comics every Sunday!

Under the Illusion WIP

A preview of Annarias and Victoria performing “Under the Illusion” by Silver Forest.

I actually did this video before, but that’s when I was using the Dance X Mixer demo. I’m going to use a completely different approach this time since I know what I’m doing.

This one is actually half way done, I just need to do finish the rest of the dances. I want to do something interesting, like switching off the dances, but we’ll see.

I’m going to California for a vacation, so this will be finished sometime next week. I’ll probably do a lot of changes for the end product.

Scarlet Doll Mansion: Sleepless Artist

The girls discuss what to do with their owner.

I was thinking of doing this for awhile. These type of comics aren’t that difficult to do and was wondering if I should do them once or twice a week?

Several site updates

I have made several changes to the site. Here are the following changes:

- Updated video links to hyperlink only (removed thumbnails)
- Added Facebook and changed RSS feed button
- Updated studio pictures with my current, temporary studio location
- Removed watermarks from original drawings
- Changed signatures for all 2010 drawings
- Removed “categories” on sidebar
- Updated bio and profile pic
- Added Proxy Creativity to link section

I removed the watermarks because I figured that signature would be enough. I also changed the signature because I really like it and will most likely keep it for a long time.

“Say Whaaaat?!”

At the title says!

So what is Minerva’s reaction to this website being five years old? She can’t believe it!

I wanted to make a simple sketch, but it turned out to be a full CG. I’m still sticking with the vibrant colors since it seems like that’s what was lacking in my artwork for the last year and a half. I changed up Minerva’s belt design a little in which I may use in her new design.

The halftone background was fun, even if I don’t completely understand halftones yet. I didn’t want anything complex, yet I wanted to try something new. I also changed my signature to my 200⑨ signature because I really liked it. Instead of 200⑨, I put my web address there.

I’m satisfied with the expression and will be drawing more Minerva soon enough.

Lockes-art.com five year anniversary!

Whoa, that one really snuck up behind me! Did you know this site existed for five years now? Let me do a tl;dr history, if you are interested in reading of course.

Well, though this may not be impressive, I’ve been playing guitar for almost ten years, but have drawn for just about thirteen years now. I never dreamed of becoming famous. I’ve also never wanted to sell my work because artwork is what I love doing most.

I started teaching myself how to do HTML in 1997 and started a website called “The Fire Cross” with my cousin. It was a site dedicated to galleries of official RPG images, collected fan artwork submission and our own fan artwork. We later moved to our own domain and called it “Fenix Hates Locke”, which focused more on our personal artwork (drawings). The website also had personal updates of what was going on in our lives.

After it seemed that my cousin lost interest in updating, we parted and I created my own domain, which you know as Lockes-art.com. The site started with a lot of pictures from my personal life, fan artwork, original artwork, sketches, comic strips and occasional flash animation. It wasn’t until late 2005 where I started posting music for my band Repliforce. I had a forum that went up and down due to lack of moderation, and ultimately kept it down because of inactivity amongst other strange drama.

Through the years, I’ve been trying to improve my artwork just because that’s what I love doing most. In addition to fan artwork, original artwork, sketching and music arrangement, I’ve added much more for visitors to look at. Fashion, graphic design and video editing are now officially added to Lockes-art and will continue to stay. All of these together will probably never leave the website.

I know I don’t have too many fans or any real reason to create the art that I do, but I hope to inspire those who think art is only about popularity or fame. That’s fine if it’s your goal, but enjoy the talent that you have and don’t stop for any reason if you enjoy doing what you do. That’s why I’ll never stop making artwork … whether it’s a fan art piece, my own character art, video editing, fashion design, graphic design, photography, or music; I just love making art.

Oh and if you are curious, here are two screenshots from past layouts.

Five years with this website, let’s hope it stays intact until my art days are over. Thank you to those who have followed me down the road this far. It’s only the beginning!

Silk screens and some updates

Silk screened shirts for Tantric Weave.

Here are some of the final prints for the Tantric Weave designs I did for Kate Lesage. Not all of the designs were printed yet due to costs, but the ones that were printed turned out pretty well I think! These will be on sale at the Las Vegas MAGIC Marketplace from August 17th – 19th. I’m hoping these designs sell.

Sorry for being a bit absent on here. I’ve been working twelve hours a day at work and took a small vacation for a few days, so I’m finally back for a bit. I’m taking this week to reassess what needs to be done and will go at it with full force.

What’s been going on in my world of art? Well, I’ve been sketching here and there, but nothing new to post yet. I think I will post a Dance X Mixer preview soon and it will be done faster than the last because it’s quite short and has no lip syncing.

I’m focusing on drawing right now, but most of my drawings I can’t post here until later for the privacy of my client. I will be doing yet another Dance X Mixer drawing for my video too.

I’ve also finished organizing my temporary studio location, in which I will replace with my older photos. In the meantime, I will be posting throughout the week when I can.

DxM ~ Story of Scarlet

YouTube Link

This is my first Dance x Mixer video!

The song is “Story of Scarlet” by Yellow Zebra and the theme they covered was “U.N. Owen Was Her”, which is best known as Flandre Scarlet’s theme. I’ve been wanting to make a Flandre / Remilia DxM video for awhile. Finally, I’ve done that.

The choreography and cinematography was fun to do and I don’t think I ran into too many problems with anything. There are several transitions that I liked, especially the quick spin at the end. I have to admit that the dramatic part was a bit Anime-ish (you’ll know which part), but I wanted to do that so you could see Flandre singing. I tried to emphasize the several different expressions I placed in the video and I thought it really helped bring the characters to life. The effects were edited in Adobe Premiere and though they were very simple, I thought it helped present the video better.

The only difficult part was the lip-syncing to the actual lyrics. That took me about twelve hours to do. I did not translate any of the lyrics; I found them on this YouTube video. Also, I was debating on using screen shots at the end or making a drawing. I thought that it deserved a drawing, and I hope it looks good together.

All in all, I think I did well for my first video. It was a bunch of fun and I look forward to my next project, whenever that may be.
